The Corpus of Christ is a recast using the finest Pewter without lead that will last for generations to come.
Quality Pewter with its high tin content allows for intricate designs and details, while also providing durability and resistance to tarnishing. To be considered "quality" pewter, the alloy must meet certain standards for purity and composition, such as containing at least 92% tin in the United States. It is valued for its beauty, versatility, and longevity. And this corpus of Christ was made in America.
Skilled artisans and workshops in France produced metal corpuses of Christ during the nineteenth century, creating highly detailed and ornate pieces. The workshop of Maison Poussielgue-Rusand in Paris was notable for its high-quality metalwork, including religious art. Other notable artisans included Henri-Auguste Fourdinois and Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, who used various techniques such as casting, forging, electroplating, and metal stamping to produce these metal corpuses. The one you see here has been forged in pewter. And is most likely from one of these artisans.
